Day of the Dead Sugar Skulls

I finally have pictures of the sugar skulls I made for today. It took me sometime because I live in a really small town in the mountains where there isn't a craft store. So I had to go down the hill to find all of the things I needed and since I didn't pay attention to the ingredients I ended up missing the most important one of all. Anyways here's the link, Mexican Sugar Skulls, where I found the recipe and the ingredients it was very useful.

Here's a real quick overview of the ingredients and materials I used. Most can be found at grocery stores but the rest at craft stores like Joann and Michaels.

  1. Granulated Sugar
  2. Meringue Powder (the most important of all because otherwise the sugar won't hold)
  3. Water
  4. Skull molds of any size.
  5. Wilton Royal Icing Mix
  6. Food Coloring
  7. Decorating Pastry Bags
  8. Beads,Feathers,Sequins and anything else to decorate.
I'm not going to put the instructions but if you guys want them just click the link above I followed those exact instructions. Here are the pictures:

This is how they looked before I decorated them.
Some of the little skulls I decorated.

One of the bigger skulls I made.
I used eatable markers to decorate this one.
This one is the final altar with the candles, the sugar skull and the skeletons.
Oh I almost forgot, you can eat the sugar skulls except I would only eat the mini skulls because it's too much sugar.
